On the day of the world famous AIDS walk in New York City, Ruben Diaz planned a funded anti-marriage equality event in the Bronx. This was not only disrespectful to the LGBTQ community, but all persons who have passed or are living with this disease. As a state senator representing part of the borough with the second highest infection rate, and as a former intravenous drug user, Diaz’s blatant disregard for humanity was addressed by Queer Rising. As a pun of the show “RuPaul’s Drag Race” –Queer Rising performed a “Ruben’s Drag Race” fundraiser at the AIDS walk, where the funds were to be used towards HIV/AIDS prevention in the Bronx.
