Sen. Joseph Addabbo was another NY state senator that was a “friend” to the LGBTQ community prior to the Marriage Equality vote in December 2009. Due to political pressures, Addabbo, voted against our rights and we fought back. At his birthday party/fundraiser, Queer Rising members disrupted his “acceptance” speech and demanded that he explain in front of his family and friends why he voted against the rights of LGBTQ families in New York. He was unable to answer and in June 2011 voted “yes” on Marriage Equality.
